Job Summary:
The OSP Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and testing of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber infrastructure supporting mission-critical data center operations. This role focuses on the physical layer, including running and terminating fiber cabling from external sources into the data center, while ensuring high performance and reliability. Technicians will work both indoors and outdoors, often in challenging environments, and must be skilled in OSP practices, cable management, and infrastructure integration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform OSP fiber installation, including pulling, routing, and securing fiber into the data center.
  • Conduct cable infrastructure rough-ins, including fiber tray systems, ladder racks, and power trays.
  • Terminate and test Single Mode and Multi-Mode fibers using various connector types (LC, SC, ST, SC-APC).
  • Label and dress all cabling to meet structured cabling standards.
  • Conduct Fluke and OTDR testing to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot fiber optic systems, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Build out server racks including racking and stacking of customer equipment.
  • Install and secure fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and other data center infrastructure.
  • Interpret and follow technical blueprints and installation documentation.
  • Receive materials, assemble hardware, and stage equipment for installation.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to complete installations.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of PPE, jobsite cleanliness, and OSHA compliance.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with colleagues and supervisors.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in data center or OSP fiber installation.
  • Proven experience with fiber optic cabling, including splicing and testing.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and on your feet for extended periods.
  • Personal hand tools required: multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, pliers, punch down tool, flashlight, steel/composite toe boots, gloves, and tool pouch.
