Job Summary
The Structured Cabling Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, and organization of low-voltage cabling systems in commercial environments. This role assists with installing, routing, dressing, labeling, and terminating CAT5e and CAT6 cabling while following project specifications, blueprints, safety standards, and established procedures. The technician works under supervision and gains hands-on experience in structured cabling systems while developing technical skills for career growth within the telecommunications and low-voltage industry.
Job Responsibilities

Install and route structured cabling infrastructure, including CAT5e and CAT6 cabling systems.

Dress and route cables into IT closets, modular furniture, and designated outlet locations.

Install cable support systems, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.

Perform cable management activities such as dressing, bundling, labeling, and organizing cables.

Terminate cables at jacks, keystones, and modular plugs (RJ-45).

Assist with Wireless Access Point (WAP) installations.

Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, diagrams, and written installation instructions.

Communicate effectively and professionally with team members and supervisors.

Maintain compliance with safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and job site housekeeping standards.

Support project completion by following established installation procedures and quality standards.
Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

OSHA 10 certification preferred.

Basic understanding of structured cabling tools, equipment, and installation practices.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical instructions.

Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn industry standards and best practices.

Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.

Ability to travel to various job sites as required.

Willingness to work occasional overtime based on project schedules.

Required tools include a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch down tool, flashlight, gloves, and tool pouch.

Steel-toe or composite-toe work boots required.
Education

High school diploma or GED required.
Work Experience

0–2 years of experience in commercial structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or data cable installation preferred.
